In addition to opportunities for mixed bowling both friendly and competitive bowls are played by the men’s and ladies sections. Details of Club, County and National competitions are displayed on the clubs notice boards, some of these being suitable for bowlers who are just beginning the game whereas others are more suitable for the experienced bowler.
Members may obtain keys to the outside gate and club house door giving access to all facilities except the bar. Providing rinks are available and declared fit for play by the Green keeper, members may play any time during the afternoon and evening. The bar is usually open each weekday evening.

         Ladies 93     Oakham Men 115
The second annual match between the ladies and men of Oakham Bowling Club was very closely contested. The ladies won on four rinks whereas the men won on just two rinks. Nevertheless the winning margins for the men on these two rinks were
sufficient for the men to win the match much to the annoyance of the ladies.
Beryl Birch presented the Bill Birch Memorial Trophy to the captain of the mens team, Eddie Owen.

Throughout the match the ladies seemed on course to win the trophy again by being always ahead on four of the six rinks. Jenny Bateman, Maureen Walters, Val Crowder and Anne Preston-Bambridge were winning ladies skips whereas John Hornsby and Terry Jeffrey were the two winning mens skips.
